MHS Varsity golf kicked off the 2019 season by playing in the popular Southern Swing Invitational. The two day tournament takes place in Springfield, Ohio at Locust Hills Golf Club. Day one saw MHS shoot a total of 345 placing us 15th out of 20 teams. Carter Hazen paced the Chemics with an 83. Rounding out the scorecard were Connor Gibbs & Mason Ripke – 87, David Draves – 88. Alex Noey also competed and finished with a 92. Jackson Shinske and Jacob Vidergar played the Q-School round and shot a 91 &103 respectively.
On day two, Jackson Shinske was inserted in the lineup. He responded by shooting his personal best of 83 which also was the low round for the team that day. Draves & Gibbs both carded an 88 and Hazen rounded out the top 4 scores with a 89. Noey & Vidergar played in day two of Q-School with Noey carding an 89 (3 shot improvement) and Vidergar shot a 92 (11 shot improvement). Total score of 348 placed the Chemics 16th out of 20 teams.
The Chemics were scheduled to play Monday, April 15th at Egypt Valley against some tough competition from the west side of the state. Unfortunately, the event was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The next event is the first annual “Backyard Brawl” versus Dow High at the Midland Country Club on April 22nd. This will be a Ryder Cup format for early bragging rights in the city of Midland. Event starts at 12:30pm.
