The Midland Boys’ Cross Country team turned in many outstanding individual races on their way to a 10th place finish out of 20 teams in the large-school division of Saturday’s Bluejay Invitational held at Shepherd High School. Matt Crowley earned a medal-worthy 28th place (16:53.6) to lead the Chemics. Kevin Hoefer (53rd, 17:30.8) and Daniel Berg (58th, 17:35.0) both ran new lifetime personal bests with Sam Yoder (65th) and Nathan Striebel (79th) also scoring for Midland. Caleb Brown (18:09.8) and Cal Stearns (18:15.2) also ran lifetime personal bests for the varsity team.
The junior varsity team took an impressive 4th place out of 19 teams in the reserve race. Sixteen of the twenty-four Chemic JV runners took advantage of the excellent course and conditions to earn new lifetime personal best times. Scoring runners included Zach Green (13th), Joshua Maschino (24th, new personal best of 18:50.7), Zoren Berlanga (25th), Gabe Kociba (36th, new personal best of 19:16.5), and Joey Pelletier (40th, new personal best of 19:19.6). Big shout-outs to Dominic Rocha who shattered his previous personal best by a full minute and to Drew Scheffer, Andrew Heye, Gabe Sokol, and Erik Lieberman for breaking their previous lifetime bests by nearly a minute!
The Chemics will face their next competition at the Heritage Invitational held at Imerman Park this coming Saturday, October 5th. Varsity race time is scheduled for 10:10 AM with the junior varsity scheduled for 11:35 AM.
