The Chemic boys’ Varsity Cross Country team kicked off their 2019 season in strong fashion with a 5th place team finish at the inaugural Northwood Invitational. Against outstanding competition the Midland runners turned in excellent times with 6 of the 7 varsity runners completing the 5 K course in under 18 minutes. Senior Tyler Pritchett once again lead the way for MHS and finished as the meet champion in a time of 16:00.4 which was over 15 seconds ahead of his closest competitor. Sophomore Matt Crowley also finished in the top 10 with the day’s 8th fastest time of 16:48.4 which was also a new personal best time. Senior Sam Yoder (24th, 17:38.4), junior Nathan Striebel (29th, 17:41.0), and sophomore Daniel Berg (30th, 17:42.5) each ran new personal best times to complete the scoring for the Chemics. Senior Kevin Hoefer (34th, 17:49.7) and freshman Caleb Brown (43rd, 18:12.3) also earned new lifetime personal best times in rounding out the varsity runners.
The JV boys’ also ran very well with 15 of the 24 runners finishing with new personal best times. Notable finishes include Zach Green in 2nd (18:21.0) with Griffin Chapple, Joshua Maschino, and Cal Sterns also finishing in the top 15 for Midland. Congrats to freshmen Noah Wittbrodt, Forest Rich, Jacob Leff, Ben Bucci, and Ethan Klaffer for completing their first cross country race as Midland Chemics!
The Chemics’ next race will take place this Tuesday, September 10th, at Imerman Park in Saginaw for the season’s first SVL Jamboree. Start time is 5:40 PM for the combined Varsity and JV race.
