Midland Chemic varsity soccer defeated host Bay City Central 8-0 to improve to 5-2-1 and 2-0 in the SVL. Goals were scored by Megan Arlt (2), Lexi Traver (2) and single goals by Mary Wandor, Marle Bringard, Hannah Welter and Jessie Brown. Assists were recorded by Mackenzie Etienne (2), Aleisha Jones (2) and singe assists by Marle Bringard, Emma Wolf and Megan Arlt. Emily Kreusch was in goal and earned the shutout. Midland Travels to Avendale tournament Saturday.

Chemics drop Powers Catholic 7-5 behind Jordan Jachens’s early triple

Four first-inning runs helped Chemics to a 7-5 win over Powers Catholic at Midland High School on Monday.

Chemics scored in the first on an RBI triple by Jordan Jachens, a wild pitch, a walk by Ryan Lynch, and a fielder’s choice.

Chemics would not relinquish the lead as Powers Catholic was unable to weather a five-run second inning deficit.

Powers Catholic scored on a sacrifice fly by Lendziom and an RBI single by Vergis in the third inning, an RBI single by Start and a fielder’s choice in the fourth inning, and a fielder’s choice in the seventh inning. Still, Powers Catholic couldn’t catch Chemics.

Jordan Jachens racked up two RBIs on three hits for Chemics.

Jordan Jachens got the win for Chemics. He allowed four runs over four innings. Jordan Jachens struck out one, walked three and gave up five hits.

Chemics built upon its lead with two runs in the sixth. The inning got off to a hot start when Jordan Jachens singled, scoring Garrett Kraut. That was followed up by Steven Butler’s single, bringing home Jordan Jachens.
