|Offenses dominate as Midland Varsity outscores Flushing 9-8
The bats were busy at Midland High on Tuesday, and when the dust cleared Midland Varsity had a 9-8 win over Flushing in seven innings.
There were 27 hits, including 10 extra base hits in the game.
Johnathan Hentschel boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 4-4 day at the plate to pace Midland Varsity. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the first, fourth, and fifth innings.
Michael Alexander got the win for Midland Varsity despite allowing eight runs over six innings. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered 13 hits.
Midland Varsity closer Matt Somers put away the final three outs to record the save.
The top of the first saw Flushing take an early lead, 6-0. The Flushing attack began with a single from Triplett. A groundout by Makranyi then moved Triplett from first to second. Randick singled, plating Triplett. Flushing then tacked on more runs when Randick scored on an RBI single by Teeples, Teeples scored on an RBI single by Morlan, MacWebb and Kenrick scored on a two-run double by Vince, and Morlan scored on an RBI single by Triplett.
Flushing brought home one run in the third inning, and matched that run total in the fourth. In the third, Flushing scored on an RBI double by Triplett, scoring Vince.
It didn't take long for Midland Varsity to answer as it scored two runs of its own in the third. Midland Varsity scored on an error and an RBI single by Chase Toland.
Midland Varsity survived Flushing's surge and put up four runs of its own in the fourth. Midland Varsity scored on an RBI single by Tanner Gross, an RBI single by Hentschel, a fielder's choice, and an RBI double by Austin Comiskey.
Midland Varsity went up for good in the fifth, scoring two runs on a passed ball and an RBI single by Cody Maier.
