Seventh-inning lead change vaults Grand Ledge past Midland Varsity, 5-3

A tight game was decided in the seventh inning as Midland Varsity fell to Grand Ledge 5-3 in seven innings on Saturday at Midland High.

Tyler Waldrop recorded the win for Grand Ledge. He tossed two innings of shutout ball. Waldrop struck out none, walked one and gave up no hits.

The bottom of the first saw Midland Varsity take an early lead, 2-0. A single by Alex Goodwin, scoring Tanner Gross started the inning off. Midland Varsity then tacked on more runs when Hentschel scored on a wild pitch.

Grand Ledge never surrendered the lead after the seventh inning, scoring two runs on a two-run single by Jake Ellis.

Midland Varsity jumps on Heritage early and coasts to 16-1 win

Midland Varsity refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against Heritage, recording a 16-1 victory on Friday at Heritage.

Ten runs in the first three innings allowed Midland Varsity to put the game away early.
An RBI single by Johnathan Hentschel, an RBI triple by Michael Wright, a sacrifice fly by Alex Goodwin, a two-run single by Chase Toland, a walk by Hentschel, and a walk by Hentschel in the first inning and an RBI double by Austin Comiskey and a sacrifice fly by Ryan Singer during the second inning supplied the early offense for Midland Varsity.

Tanner Gross racked up three RBIs on one hit for Midland Varsity. He tripled in the fourth inning.

Elliott Digison recorded the win for Midland Varsity. He allowed one run over four innings. Digison struck out two, walked two and gave up three hits.

Midland Varsity pounded Heritage pitching, as six hitters combined for 10 hits, 10 RBIs and nine runs scored.
"Our pitchers kept Heritage hitters off balance all day long. We also had balanced offensive production with 12 different players collecting hits on the day. Let's hope we can find the same success through the weekend and into tournament play." Albright
Midland is now 21-6 overall and finishes the SVL season with a 12-2 record. The Chemics host Grand Ledge on Saturday at 10:00.

Midland Varsity cruises past Heritage, 9-1

Midland Varsity pounded Heritage on Friday 9-1 at Heritage in seven innings.

Midland Varsity scored four runs in the sixth on a single by Michael Wright, an RBI single by Austin Comiskey, and a two-run single by Logan Madill.

Madill went a perfect 2-2 at the dish for Midland Varsity.

Matt Somers was a workhorse on the rubber while bagging the win for Midland Varsity. Somers allowed no earned runs, six hits and no walks while striking out five over seven innings of work.

The lead stayed with Midland Varsity after the second, when it scored two runs on a two-run error.

Midland Varsity tacked on another two runs in the fourth. The inning got off to a hot start when Thomas Smith doubled, plating Madill. That was followed up by Tanner Gross's single, scoring Smith.

Midland Varsity takes early lead in 5-0 win over Flushing

Three first-inning runs helped Midland Varsity to a 5-0 win over Flushing at Midland High on Tuesday.

Thomas Smith put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for Midland Varsity. He tripled in the fourth inning and doubled in the sixth inning.

Midland Varsity's Cody Maier kept Flushing off the scoreboard for all seven innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on six hits while ringing up six.

Midland Varsity was sparked by Smith and Michael Wright, who teamed up for four hits and two RBIs.

Midland Varsity built upon its lead with two runs in the fourth. A triple by Smith ignited the offense, scoring Elliott Digison.

Offenses dominate as Midland Varsity outscores Flushing 9-8

The bats were busy at Midland High on Tuesday, and when the dust cleared Midland Varsity had a 9-8 win over Flushing in seven innings.

There were 27 hits, including 10 extra base hits in the game.

Johnathan Hentschel boosted his batting average thanks to a perfect 4-4 day at the plate to pace Midland Varsity. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the first, fourth, and fifth innings.

Michael Alexander got the win for Midland Varsity despite allowing eight runs over six innings. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered 13 hits.

Midland Varsity closer Matt Somers put away the final three outs to record the save.

The top of the first saw Flushing take an early lead, 6-0. The Flushing attack began with a single from Triplett. A groundout by Makranyi then moved Triplett from first to second. Randick singled, plating Triplett. Flushing then tacked on more runs when Randick scored on an RBI single by Teeples, Teeples scored on an RBI single by Morlan, MacWebb and Kenrick scored on a two-run double by Vince, and Morlan scored on an RBI single by Triplett.

Flushing brought home one run in the third inning, and matched that run total in the fourth. In the third, Flushing scored on an RBI double by Triplett, scoring Vince.

It didn't take long for Midland Varsity to answer as it scored two runs of its own in the third. Midland Varsity scored on an error and an RBI single by Chase Toland.

Midland Varsity survived Flushing's surge and put up four runs of its own in the fourth. Midland Varsity scored on an RBI single by Tanner Gross, an RBI single by Hentschel, a fielder's choice, and an RBI double by Austin Comiskey.

Midland Varsity went up for good in the fifth, scoring two runs on a passed ball and an RBI single by Cody Maier.

Midland swept Flushing with scores 6-0 and 4-1, respectively. In game one, Juli LaRose was the winning pitchers striking out 12, zero walks and only allowing two hits. Leading Chemic Hitters were: Juli LaRose with a triple, single & 3 RBI's, Katelyn Woods with two singles, Zoe Stirn with 2 singles and 1 RBI, and Zoe Manary with 2 singles. Midland won the game in game two, 4-1. Zoe Manary was the winning pitcher striking out 2, zero walks and giving up 4 hits. Leading hitters in game two were: Julie LaRose with a triple and 1 RBI, and Carly Barber, Makenzie MacDonald and Taylor Cramer each had a hit. Chemic JV Softball team improves to 18-5 and 7-1 in SVL.
