Girls Varsity Softball, Softball · Meet the Chemics – Senior Softball Spotlight

Each week for the remainder of the school year, MHS Athletics will feature Seniors from our spring sports teams who are missing out on their last chance to wear a Chemic jersey this season.   This series looks to honor their commitment to their sport, their team, and to Midland High School for the last four years.  Thank you, Class of 2020 for being Chemics!

In what other activities/clubs were you a participant at MHS?

Volleyball and National Honors Society

What were you most looking forward to this spring season?

I wanted to play one more time with girls I won’t have a chance to play with again, and close my four years on varsity with new memories. I can’t forget the new jerseys and socks!

What is one of your favorite memories at Midland High School?

My freshman year I was excused from my math exam, our team made it to the Quarterfinals at Central Michigan. The outcome of the game wasn’t what we wanted but it will remain special to me.

Who is someone that has a positive impact on you during your time at MHS? Why?

A large number of people fit underneath this category unfortunate I can’t name everyone but I am thankful. First, the classes of 2017 and 2018 welcomed and taught me what its like to play a fun competitive game. Last year after being cleared to play sports I learned how to find patience with myself because Coach Starling. During my first practice back I was disappointing in myself but he pointed out my lack of practice compared to everyone else. He put into prospective I should be peaking at the end of the season and have zero expectations for myself. Everyone has bad days, before I learned to be patience I would be overly hard on myself because I want perfection. Now I’ve found a balance between my self expectations and accepting bad days when they come. Finally my parents, their time, assistance, and continuous support has lifted me to where I am today. You guys have provided me all the possible opportunities an athlete needs to be successful. Thank you!

What is your advice for your younger teammates?

Learn to love the coaching you receive, it isn’t personally it’s to improve your skills. You should hold yourself with confidence and have a resilient attitude. A player with confidence can become comfortable in all situations because they believe in themselves. You have teammates for multiple reason, let them support you and you support them. Make your own fun (stay reasonable) and enjoying the friendships you’ll make. Once this happens its shows on the field.

What are you most proud of about your career as a student-athlete?

I recovered from a four month knee injury one week before the 2019 softball season started. In June at the team banquet I received All-District Team, Second Team All-State, and the Regional Team award for outfield. It was an additional accomplishment given how I began the season.

What do you plan to do after you graduate from High School?

I’m undecided where I’ll be continuing my education but I have the intentions to continue my softball career after High school.
