This Saturday, the Midland Chemic Soccer team will clash with the Traverse City Central team in Traverse City for the Northern District Title Division 1 at 2:00 at the Coast Guard Soccer Complex in Traverse City.
The Chemics advanced to the district championship by downing Bay City Central 7-0 on Monday night in the quarterfinal. Midland then edged HH Dow in semifinal at Midland Stadium 1-0 on second half goal by junior, Greg Long.
Both teams in the championship are solid defensive teams. The Chemics have 14 shuouts on the season, with 13 goals allowed, and 53 goals scored.
The Chemics are on a 7 game non-scored against streak. The solid defense is lead by seniors Brendyn Bartos, Adam Talbott, Justin Johnson, and Ethan Wolf.
On the offensive line the Chemics are lead by seniors Jake Rajewski, Mike Conarty, Nick Wiggins, Morgan Kuhn and Matt Bott
Senior Jake Rajewski previewed the match by saying, “The game Saturday could go either way. If we play our game, the game is ours. But if not, they are a tough team to beat. It would be the first district championship in a long time!”
But right behind them, and equal to all the seniors are the underclassmen who provide support, defensive back up, attacking recovery and definition for a whole team concept. These 12 non seniors are the bright future of the Chemics.
Midland High School Varsity Boys Soccer has amassed a record of 12-3-5. Winning the Saginaw Valley League North for the 4th consecutive season.
These strong young men shall represent the City of Midland with honor, strength and determination this weekend. They are a disciplined team.
