Midland High’s path to the district finals has not been easy. The Chemics defeated Bay City Western by a score of 51-45 in front of a big crowd at Midland High in the District semi-final. They move on to face HH Dow (58-37 winners over Heritage) in the district final on Friday night at 7:00 on the Chemics home court.
After a back and forth battle on Monday night with Mt. Pleasant, the Chemics sure could have used a less stressful win in Wednesday night’s semifinal against Bay City Western. With just 3 wins on the season, BCW could have easily whimpered out of the playoffs. The Warriors however led for most of the second half stretching their lead to as many as 8 points with 6:24 left in the 4th quarter. Ultimately the Chemics were able to get some turnovers and make free throws down the stretch to turn the game in their favor.
The Chemics and Chargers split their season series, both winning in the opponent’s gym by wide margins. January 29th 55-45 loss at MHS, February 14th 60-39 win at DHS.
This is first time since 1990 that the Chemics and Chargers have met in a District FINAL.
The winner of Friday night’s district championship will advance to the regional semifinal held at Davison High School on Monday, March 11th at 7:30 against the winner of Saginaw High vs. Arthur Hill
